I am a wanna-be gardener. And since I dont have enough projects started and half finished, I thought I would add another. Meet my new raised garden bed (Its not done, I need to add the top boards, a little more dirt, and maybe some plants).
I have always wanted a garden bed. Since we moved into the house I have tried to have a few veggie plants in containers with good success, but never as much as I wanted. Last year this was ok because not all that many of my seedlings did very well... let just say I am still learning.

This year is another story. You cant see them all in the picture, but I have lots of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, cilantro, chives, and onions doing quite well (to my amazement) and my handful of pots were not going to fit all of them. After looking at large pots, I decided building my raised garden bed would be much more cost effective.
I picked up 12 cedar pickets for ~$25 which was a lot cheaper than getting regular stock cedar and it worked pretty well since I was able to just cover up the dog ear cuts.
So in a couple hours I had are 12'x2' box with some stakes in the corners to hold it in place.
John was sweet enough to help me till out the area I planned to put it. I figure it would be a good way to break up the grass and weeds that had been living there with minimal effort, as well as soften things up to get those stakes into the ground. I also dont plan on filling the whole bed to the top, so I figured it would make fore a better base for the plants that would root down deeper.
Now that it is in place, I plan to add some top edging, a trellis on the back to train my zucchini and cucumbers on to,and of course the plants once they are just a little bit bigger. I also considering trying some upside down tomatoes as well, but we will see how that goes.
